Meet the Admissions Staff: Allison Roper
Allison Roper is originally from Annapolis, Maryland, and true to the land of her birth, loves water, sailing, and anything covered in Old-Bay Seasoning. She received her bachelor’s degree in drama and philosophy from Kenyon College and was lucky enough to be among the graduates for whom David Foster Wallace gave the Commencement Address. She also studied acting at the British American Drama Academy in London and cinematography (16mm) at The New York Film Academy. After Kenyon, she backpacked extensively through Spain, Portugal, France, and England, eventually moving to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where she worked in clinical research until she came to her senses and finally pursued her dream of attending St. John’s. She received her master’s degree in liberal arts in 2010. She fell so deeply in love with the curriculum and the St. John’s method of learning and its emphasis on discourse, that she has made it her mission to tell others about it and to help them realize their own dreams of attending the college.
Her favorite program authors are Nietzsche, Chekov, and Dante, but she also loves spending evenings with J.D. Salinger, Hemingway, and Kerouac. Her philosopher crush is, of course, Kierkegaard.
Allison loves travel, hiking, back-packing, painting, and Coca-Cola. She is also passionate about architecture and city planning and enjoys studying them in her free time. She is the founder, president, and sole member of the Professional Rock Collectors Club of Santa Fe (PRCCSF). Finally, and perhaps most notably, Allison is a die-hard Washington Redskins fan and looks forward to their imminent Super Bowl victory.
