Quick Facts
Student : Faculty Ratio: 5 : 1
Class Size: Seminars have between 17-21 students and are led by two faculty members. Lab class has 12-18 students and is led by one faculty member. Tutorials (mathematics, language, and music) have 9-12 students per class and are led by one faculty member.
Library Facilities: The libraries in Annapolis and Santa Fe contain over 100,000 and 60,000 volumes, respectively. Each library houses a number of special collections, and each campus has a music library.
Locations: The 36-acre campus in Annapolis, the capital of Maryland, is a National Historic Landmark, and lies within the Annapolis Historic District. Students in Annapolis can explore the rich heritage of colonial America. Because of its location at the confluence of the Severn River and the Chesapeake Bay, Annapolis has long been a sailing center. Annapolis is within an hour's drive of the cultural attractions of Washington, D.C., and Baltimore.
The 250-acre Santa Fe campus offers access to both the spectacular scenery and cultural attractions of the Southwest. Located at 7,000 feet above sea level, Santa Fe is the nation’s oldest capital city and boasts a tri-cultural community comprised of Hispanic, Native American, and Anglo populations. Santa Fe is located 65 miles north of Albuquerque, the largest city in New Mexico.
Student Enrollment: Each Summer Academy session enrolls approximately 40 students hailing from many of the 50 states and several foreign countries. The ratio of men to women is 1 : 1. The ratio of rising juniors to rising seniors is 1 : 2.
Second Campus Option: Students may apply for multiple sessions provided the sessions do not run concurrently. This enables a student to experience the Summer Academy in two stunning state capitals. Only one application is necessary; simply send it to the campus hosting the first week you wish to attend, and make your intent to apply for subsequent weeks clear.
Fees: The Summer Academy at St. John’s College costs $990 per week. The cost includes tuition, room and board, books, activity fees, and in most cases, transportation to and from local airports. Financial aid is not currently available.
Application: Please send your most recent official high school transcript, one letter of recommendation from a teacher, and a 500 word personal statement to the campus of your choice. (See Second Campus Option if you are interested in applying to more than one campus.) All applications must be accompanied by our cover form, which can be found here. Once your application is complete, it will take up to seven business days for it to be evaluated.
